Marta Kostyuk advanced to the round of 32 at the 2026 U.S. Open

Ukraine’s No. 2-ranked player, Marta Kostyuk, advanced to the round of 16 at the U.S. Open (2026) in New York.

In the second round, the 11th-seeded Kostyuk defeated former 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens of the United States—who is currently ranked 209th in the world—in just under an hour and a half. The match ended with a score of 6-1, 7-5.

Marta’s next opponent will be the winner of the match between Australian Kimberly Birrell (No. 71) and “neutral” player Kateryna Aleksandrova (No. 19).

It should be noted that Kostyuk is competing in the US Open main draw for the seventh consecutive season. Last year, Marta achieved her best result, reaching the fourth round.

As previously reported, the US Open will continue in New York through September 13.

Marta Kostyuk advanced to the fourth round of a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time in her career.

Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, fell one step short of the final at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. In a tense semifinal, the Ukrainian lost in three sets to former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland.

As a reminder, on August 11, Elina Svitolina defeated Russia’s Katerina Aleksandrova in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Toronto and advanced to the semifinals. The Ukrainian lost the first set but staged a comeback to win the match in three sets—3-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Prior to that, Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, secured a victory in the round of 16 at the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament being held in Toronto.
