At the Russian Championship, a wrestler bit his opponent during a match

A high-profile incident occurred at the Russian Wrestling Championship. During a match, Dagestan athlete Imam Umarov bit his opponent, Artem Gobaev, on the leg. After reviewing the incident, the referees disqualified Umarov for unsportsmanlike conduct. His opponent automatically advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The Russian Wrestling Championship was remembered not for the wrestling itself, but for an unusual incident right on the mat. During the match, Dagestani wrestler Imam Umarov bit his opponent, Artem Gobaev, on the leg. A video of the moment quickly went viral on social media.

The incident occurred during the bout while the athletes were grappling on the mat. At one point, Umarov suddenly bit Gobaev on the leg. The referees immediately stopped the bout and, after a brief consultation, reached a decision. Imam Umarov was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct.

As a result, Artem Gobaev, representing the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, was automatically declared the winner of the bout and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Russian Championship. There has been no official explanation from Umarov himself regarding his actions. The incident quickly went viral online, and videos of the match began to be widely shared by social media users.

As a reminder, this isn’t the only sports story that has attracted attention recently. Earlier, it was reported that David Nedotopa, a canoeist from the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky who had moved to Germany, was posting messages on Instagram containing Russian propaganda.

The reason for his outrage was the behavior of Ukrainian canoeist Yelyzaveta Voznyuk during the European Junior Championships. After winning the silver medal, the Ukrainian athlete refused to shake hands with the representative from Belarus or pose for photos with her at the awards ceremony.

Videos of this moment were posted on the “Rowing Ukraine” and UkrSportBase pages. It was under these posts that Nedotop left comments repeating Russian propaganda narratives.
