In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, former Botafogo soccer player Tassio Maia dos Santos died during a storm. The 41-year-old athlete was killed when a concrete fence collapsed due to a severe storm.
The tragedy occurred on July 29 in the Santa Teresa neighborhood. According to local media reports, wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h caused the structure to collapse onto Santos and his colleague, Wandré Cordeiro. Both men died at the scene.
Security cameras captured the moment of the collapse. The footage shows that several passersby, including a child, managed to move away from the dangerous area just seconds before the tragedy.
Tassio Maia dos Santos ended his professional career in 2019. During that time, he played for 27 clubs in various countries, and in 2015, he played six matches for Botafogo. Following the news of his death, the club expressed its condolences to the player’s family and loved ones.
