Riots broke out in the Netherlands following Morocco's victory at the 2026 World Cup

Following Morocco’s victory over the Netherlands in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, mass riots involving fans broke out in several Dutch cities.

According to local media reports, the situation was most tense in The Hague, where fans threw fireworks and rocks at police officers. Law enforcement used water cannons to disperse the crowd.

Celebrations also took place in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and other cities. At least one person is reported to have been detained.

In the Round of 32, Morocco defeated the Netherlands in a penalty shootout and advanced to the Round of 16, where it will face Canada.
