Belgium national team midfielder Onana will be sidelined for 7–8 months due to a serious injury
The Belgian national team has lost one of its key players. Midfielder Amadou Onana suffered a serious injury during the Round of 16 match at the 2026 World Cup against the United States (4–1) and will not play again in the tournament.
The player left the field in the first half and was seen on crutches near the bench after halftime. A medical examination confirmed a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.
Due to the injury, Onana will miss not only the remainder of the 2026 World Cup but also the start of the new English Premier League season with Aston Villa. According to preliminary estimates, his recovery will take seven to eight months.
The Belgian midfielder has played four matches at this World Cup.
