Swimmer Gan Ching Hwee wins Asian Games silver in Tokyo — Channel NewsAsia
Singaporean swimmer Gan Ching Hwee won a silver medal in the 1,500m freestyle at the Asian Games in Tokyo, Japan. She completed the distance in 16 minutes 00.45 seconds and set a new Singapore national record, Channel NewsAsia reports.

The competition took place at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. China’s Li Bingjie won gold, while Japan’s Ichika Kajimoto took bronze. For the 23-year-old Gan, this was her first Asian Games medal.
At the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, the Singaporean finished fourth in the 1,500m freestyle with a time of 16 minutes 24.67 seconds. The last swimmer from Singapore to win an individual Asian Games medal before Gan was Roanne Ho, who earned a medal in the 50m breaststroke in 2018.

National records
Gan holds five individual Singapore records: in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m freestyle events, as well as the 400m individual medley. She set all these records over the past 14 months.
In July, at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the athlete improved her own national record in the 400m freestyle and finished fifth in the final. At the 2025 Southeast Asian Games, she won the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle races for the third consecutive time. At the Asian Games, Gan is also entered in the 400m and 800m freestyle events.
