Poland May Be Suspended from the Olympics Due to a Scandal at the National Olympic Committee
The participation of Polish athletes in the Olympic Games has been jeopardized following the arrest of Radosław Pesevich, president of the Polish Olympic Committee, in connection with a corruption case. One possible solution to the crisis is the suspension of the Polish NOC’s membership in the IOC, which could deprive athletes of the right to compete in the Olympics.
As is known, PKOl head Pesewicz was recently taken into custody by law enforcement agencies. He is suspected of involvement in corruption schemes linked to the cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto. The Polish official faces a prison sentence ranging from six months to eight years.
Tomasz Chamera, vice president of the Polish Olympic Committee, consulted with the International Olympic Committee regarding the organization’s next steps following these events. The IOC highlighted three possible solutions to this problem.
The first is for Pesevich to resign voluntarily, but this scenario is considered unlikely, as the arrested head of the organization believes he has fallen victim to political intrigue.
The second option is for the Polish Olympic Committee, without external interference, to personally remove Pesewicz from his position as president of the organization.
According to lawyers, PKOl officials have the grounds and authority to adopt such a resolution under Articles 18 and 21 of the organization’s charter, which permit the removal of the president due to actions that have damaged the reputation and caused harm to the sports body.
A third scenario—which is the riskiest—could occur if the PKOl is unable to resolve this issue on its own. In that case, the IOC may intervene, which could result in Polish athletes being barred from the Olympic Games and the Polish Olympic Committee having its membership revoked.

The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine is challenging the IOC’s decision regarding Russia’s participation in sports in court.
Previously, the IOC ignored statements by the head of the Russian Olympic Committee, Degtyaryov, in support of the war.
Prior to this, Kyiv’s “Dynamo” appealed to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), calling on it to respond to the display of the Russian flag by fans of the Greek club PAOK during a Europa League qualifying match.
