A promotional company has filed a lawsuit against Messi and the Argentine Football Association
The American company VID has filed a lawsuit in a South Florida court against striker Lionel Messi and the Argentine Football Association for breach of contract regarding the player’s participation in friendly matches.
The promoter accuses the player of missing the match against the Venezuelan national team despite having no injuries, according to TMZ Sports.
The company paid $7 million for exclusive rights to host two matches in the U.S., but Messi did not take the field in the first match and watched it from the VIP box. The contract required the player to spend at least 30 minutes on the field in each match, yet the day after the national team’s game, he played for Inter Miami and scored two goals.
VID representatives claim they lost several million dollars due to a breach of contract and the failure to deliver the promised matches against China in 2026. Currently, the 38-year-old eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and the Argentine Football Association face liability for the tour organizer’s alleged financial losses. The case is being heard amid the active international appearances of the decorated Argentine, who is a World Cup champion and two-time Copa América winner. The amount of the claim has not been officially disclosed, but the plaintiff insists on full compensation for damages resulting from the breach of obligations. The pre-trial proceedings are ongoing, and the AFA has not yet entered into new agreements to resolve the conflict.
