Scotland has appointed Belgian Pokognoli as head coach of the national team
Belgian coach Sébastien Pocognoli has been named head coach of the Scottish national soccer team. He has signed a two-year contract, according to the country’s soccer association. Channel NewsAsia reports this, citing Reuters.
Pocognoli, 39, has replaced Steve Clarke. The new head coach will lead the Scottish team in its Nations League campaign.

Pocognoli said he was immediately interested in the opportunity to lead the national team when he heard about Scotland’s interest. He also noted the passion of Scottish fans, which, he said, he experienced back in 2013 while playing for the Belgian national team. The coach promised that, together with his staff, he would build a team that fans can be proud of and build on the achievements of his predecessor.
In his playing days, Pocognoli played left back. Among the clubs he played for were West Bromwich Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion. Prior to this appointment, he served as head coach of Monaco. Poconoli became the second foreign head coach of the Scottish men’s national team after German Berti Vogts, who led the team from 2002 to 2004.
