Snigur explained how she defeated Svitolina at Wimbledon 2026

On Tuesday, June 30, a sensational match between two Ukrainian tennis players took place on the courts of Wimbledon.

Daria Snigur demonstrated a high level of skill and defeated Elina Svitolina in two sets, 7-5, 6-2, ending her run in the tournament in the first round.

For Elina Svitolina, this defeat marked her first first-round loss at Wimbledon since 2018.

In recent years, she has posted excellent results on the grass courts of London, reaching the semifinals twice and falling in the quarterfinals once.

After the match, Daria Snigur candidly spoke about her emotions and the strategy that helped her secure the victory.

According to the tennis player, her mental toughness and ability to enjoy playing on a big stage were key factors.

“I won thanks to my poker face—that’s the first thing. Second, I just played my game and tried to enjoy the moment. When the score was 0-4, I really let go of the situation. I just tried to focus on myself, on the fact that I was playing on the second court—and that’s really cool,” Snigur explained.

The athlete admitted that the start of the match was difficult due to the palpable nerves she felt before the important match.

Despite the rough start, she managed to adapt to the atmosphere on the second court and find her own rhythm, which ultimately led to a positive result.

“I got off to a bad start because I was nervous. It’s hard to play, of course. I had a tough draw in the first round. Plus, we were playing on the second court—there were fans, and I was just trying to find my game. I’m glad I did,” Daria added.

In the second set, with the advantage after winning the first game, Snigur continued to maintain a high level of concentration.

She emphasized that she didn’t let herself think prematurely about a final victory, as she was aware of the responsibility of the moment and the danger of losing her rhythm.

“Of course, things calmed down a bit in the second set because I was able to take the first one. But I didn’t let up and didn’t think about winning—I understood that I couldn’t lose my focus,” the tennis player concluded.
