Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic defeated Portugal's Nuno Borges in the first round of the China Open in Beijing, China. The former world number one won 6:3, 7:6 (7:2), earning his first victory since reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals in July. MyJoyOnline reports, citing the BBC.

The match lasted one hour and 50 minutes

Djokovic had difficulties in the second set. Between games, he stretched his back using a racket and also took a medical timeout to receive treatment for an issue with his right shoulder. Despite this, the 39-year-old Serb saw out the match for victory.

In August, Djokovic said that he had experienced health problems over the past several years, which are particularly noticeable in hot and humid weather.

30 consecutive wins in Beijing

The victory over Borges was Djokovic's 30th consecutive win at the tournament in Beijing. The Serb is competing at the China Open for the first time since 2015 and aims to win the competition for a seventh time, which would allow him to extend his own record.

In the second round, the 24-time Grand Slam champion will play China's Bu Yunchaokete, who received a wildcard.

Result in the women's draw

British tennis player Katie Boulter also advanced to the second round of the women's tournament. She defeated Japan's Mai Hontama 6:3, 6:4 and will face seventh-seeded Czech player Karolina Muchova in her next match.
