Tennis player Swiatek set a record at Roland Garros on the women's tour

Polish tennis player Iga Świątek got off to a strong start at the French Open and set a new record in the history of women’s tennis at Grand Slam tournaments. The former world No. 1 rewrote the record books on the women’s tour, cementing her status as one of the strongest players of the modern era.

This was reported with reference to Opta Ace.

In the first round of the competition, the former women’s tour leader defeated Australian tennis player Emerson Jones (6-2, 6-1). For Swiatek, this victory marked her 25th consecutive win in the first rounds of Grand Slam tournaments. This figure set a new record in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

The Polish tennis player’s new achievement is also significant for the sport as a whole. In the men’s tour, only three players have recorded 25 or more wins in the opening rounds of Grand Slams. The first was American Jim Courier in the 1990s, and in the new century, the feat was achieved by Swiss tennis player Roger Federer and Serbian Novak Djokovic.

In the second round of the French Open, Swiatek will face Czech tennis player Sara Beylik. This match is scheduled for May 27. In the fourth round, Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk could be the Polish player’s potential opponent.

Svitolina set a historic age record in women’s tennis.

Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, will retain her position in the top ten of the world rankings at least until the start of the French Open.
