TP Mazembe knock Medeama out of the African Champions League

Congolese club TP Mazembe defeated Ghanaian side Medeama 3-1 in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and advanced to the next round of the 2026/27 African Confederation of Football Champions League. The two-legged preliminary-round tie ended 4-1 in favour of the team from the DRC.

Three goals from TP Mazembe

As MyJoyOnline reports, TP Mazembe opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Patrick Mwaungulu. The goal extended the hosts' advantage in the two-legged tie to 2-0.

Shortly afterwards, Kazema Baso scored TP Mazembe's second goal. After the break, Mwaungulu completed his brace to make it 3-0, making Medeama's task considerably more difficult.

Late goal

Medeama, the Ghana Premier League champions, responded in the 87th minute. Dominic Amponsah scored a consolation goal, but it did not affect the outcome of the two-legged tie.

In the first match, the team from Tarkwa conceded a late goal, and in the return leg it was unable to change the course of the duel. Medeama ended its African Champions League campaign at the preliminary-round stage, while TP Mazembe will continue in the tournament.
