Arsenal coach Arteta did not rule out loan move for Max Dowman — Sky Sports News

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta did not rule out the possibility that 16-year-old midfielder Max Dowman could go out on loan in the future. As Sky Sports News reports, the London club will assess the footballer’s development every six months.

Dowman remains with the team for now

Arteta said Arsenal had not considered loan options because it had wanted Dowman to be part of the squad from the start and to involve him in pre-season preparations. According to the coach, the current priority is for the footballer to remain at the club and help the team.

Future decisions will depend on the player’s own needs, the situation in the team, the players available in the squad, Dowman’s number of playing minutes and the quality of his performances. Arteta noted that loans for players of this age can have different outcomes: the atmosphere at the new club, the coach’s trust and the opportunity to get playing time all matter.

Two goals in the League Cup

This week, Dowman started and scored twice in Arsenal’s winning English League Cup match against Ipswich. Those 90 minutes remain his only playing time this season. Dowman was also left out of Arsenal’s squad for the winning matches against Aston Villa and Sunderland.

After the match against Ipswich, Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino compared the young footballer to Barcelona and Spain player Lamine Yamal. Last season, Dowman became the youngest goalscorer and the youngest player to start a Premier League match, as well as the youngest footballer in Champions League history.
