Türkiye defend European women’s volleyball champions title in Istanbul
Türkiye’s women’s volleyball national team defeated Italy 3:2 in the CEV EuroVolley Women final in Istanbul and won the European champions title for the second consecutive time. As Anadolu Agency reports, Italy entered the match as the reigning world and Olympic champions.
Course of the final
Italy won the first set 25:16 and led 12:6 in the second set. The Turkish team came back and levelled the match by winning 25:22. The third set again went to Italy, 25:12: at the start of the set, it took an 8:2 lead and later extended its advantage to 19:9.

In the fourth set, the hosts led 6:1 and 10:3. Italy reduced the deficit to two points, 16:14, but Türkiye held on to its advantage and won the set 25:21, taking the match to a tie-break.
Decisive set
In the fifth set, Türkiye moved ahead 6:4 after the score was 4:4, then increased the gap to 8:4 and 12:7. The tie-break ended 15:10. Melissa Vargas and Paola Egonu were the top scorers in the final, with 28 points each.
