Australia beat Turkey at the Women's Basketball World Cup
Australia's women's basketball team secured its second victory at the FIBA Women's World Cup, defeating Turkey 87-71 in Berlin, Germany. The Australians won both opening matches of the tournament and have a good chance of reaching the playoff stage.

Australia's new captain Ezi Magbegor scored 21 points, making 10 of 14 field-goal attempts. Steph Talbot added 17 points. In its first World Cup match, Australia defeated Puerto Rico 70-54.
As ABC News Australia reports, the match against Turkey began at 11:30 local time and was the first game of the day.

Night-time hotel evacuation
Before the match, both teams woke up at 02:00 because a fire alarm went off at the hotel. Players and coaches evacuated the building and returned about an hour later.
Australia head coach Sandy Brondello said there was no fire. According to her, someone pressed the emergency alarm button in an elevator. Magbegor called the situation unusual and noted that the team understood it could not influence it, so it tried to fall asleep again.
Turkey coach Andrea Masson said that he and the players slept for about three hours because of the alarm. He said the team had a difficult night, but stressed that this was not an excuse for the defeat.
