Real Madrid has made a decision regarding Lunin ahead of the start of the Champions League
Real Madrid has released its roster for the first match of the group stage of the 2026–27 Champions League season against Inter Milan. The day before, Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin missed the team’s training session.
Ukrainian national team goalkeeper Andriy Lunin did not make the Spanish powerhouse’s roster. The coaching staff of the “Whites,” led by José Mourinho, will take three goalkeepers to the match. Belgian Thibaut Courtois will be backed up by Spaniards Sergio Mestre and Javi Navarro.
The Ukrainian goalkeeper is currently on Real Madrid’s injured list. He missed the Madrid first team’s training session the day before. Lunin has come down with the flu, and it is currently unknown when he will return to the squad.
Courtois’s backup has not yet taken the field this season. Last season, Lunin played in 12 matches, conceding 21 goals. The Ukrainian kept a clean sheet in only one match.
