Quiñones and Camberos nominated for the 2026 Ballon d'Or
The 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony will take place in London, United Kingdom, on October 26. Among the nominees for the award for the best male and female footballer are Mexico’s Julián Quiñones and Scarlett Camberos, Mexico News Daily reports. Quiñones became the second Mexican male footballer to receive such a nomination, while Camberos is the first Mexican woman nominated for the distinction.
Quiñones’ performances
The 29-year-old forward Quiñones, who was born in Colombia, received the nomination after prolific performances in the Saudi Arabian championship and for Mexico’s national team at the 2026 World Cup. Before the World Cup, he became the Saudi league’s top scorer with 33 goals — five more than Cristiano Ronaldo.
At the World Cup, Quiñones scored the tournament’s first goal and added three more. He drew level with the leaders on Mexico’s all-time World Cup scoring list, while FIFA included him among the competition’s top 10 players.

The previous Mexican to receive similar recognition was goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who was nominated 19 years ago. At that time, France Football magazine selected 50 nominees, while this year’s list consists of 30 footballers.
Camberos’ and Club América’s achievements
Last season, 25-year-old forward Scarlett Camberos helped Club América win three trophies, scoring 27 goals and providing seven assists. The Mexico City team won the 2026 Liga MX Femenil Clausura, claimed the Campeón de Campeones for the second consecutive time, and became the winner of the Concacaf Women’s Champions Cup.
Camberos was named the best player of the Concacaf tournament. Club América was also included among the five contenders for Women’s Club of the Year, where it will compete, among others, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich. The nominees were determined based on performances during the 2025–2026 season and international tournaments held from August 3, 2025, to July 19, 2026.
