Ukrainian coach Oleksandr Ivanov has continued to work in Russia

After the start of the full-scale war, Oleksandr Ivanov did not cease his professional activities in Russia. The decorated Ukrainian soccer coach continued his career in the aggressor country.

Ivanov currently works for St. Petersburg’s Zenit.

For many years, Ivanov served as Myron Markevych’s assistant at Metalist and Dnipro. In 2015, he independently led Dnipro in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 against Ajax, as Markevych was unable to be on the bench due to health issues. In that edition of the tournament, the club from Dnipro achieved historic success—it reached the final.

Ivanov was also a member of the coaching staffs at Rukh, Agrobiznes, Chornomorets, and Mariupol. In 2017–2018, he also managed Metalist 1925.

After the outbreak of full-scale war, the coach moved to Russia. Since July 2023, Ivanov has been working at the “Zenit” Olympic Reserve Sports School in St. Petersburg. He initially coached youth teams and later became head coach.

According to Transfermarkt, Oleksandr Ivanov holds both Ukrainian and Russian citizenship.

This was reported by “Dnipryanin.”
