South Korean baseball player Kim Do-young undergoes surgery for broken nose
In Gwangju, South Korea, Kia Tigers baseball player Kim Do-young underwent surgery to repair a broken nose after suffering an injury in a Korea Baseball Organization game against the NC Dinos. His participation in the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya currently remains in question.
As reported by The Korea Herald, the 22-year-old player was injured during an unsuccessful bunt attempt at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field in Gwangju. The ball bounced off the bat and hit him in the face. Kim immediately began bleeding, after which a team staff member ran out from the dugout and covered the player's face with a towel. The baseball player was replaced shortly afterward.
Recovery after surgery
The Kia Tigers said the surgery was performed late Wednesday evening, several hours after the injury. Kim is scheduled to be discharged from the hospital on Friday, and the timing of his return will be determined after monitoring his recovery. A club representative said the injury is not considered serious, and the player will remain on the active roster for now.

This season, Kim has played in all 122 games for the Kia Tigers. In 2025, he appeared in only 30 games because of several hamstring injuries.
Participation in the Asian Games
Kim, the 2024 KBO season's most valuable player, leads the league with a career-high 40 home runs and 105 runs scored. He is also among the leaders in other key offensive categories, including RBIs, walks, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
He was expected to bat in the middle of South Korea's national team lineup as it seeks its fifth consecutive Asian Games gold medal. National team players are set to begin training camp in Seoul next Tuesday and travel to Nagoya on September 18. South Korea will play its first game against Chinese Taipei on September 21.
