Wigan win League Leaders’ Shield, Peet praises Liam Farrell
Wigan Warriors thrashed Catalans Dragons 50–12 in the final round of the Super League, finished first in the table and won the League Leaders’ Shield. The team needed a victory to guarantee first place, Sky Sports News reports.
Matt Peet’s assessment
Wigan head coach Matt Peet highly praised Liam Farrell. According to the coach, the player is held in great respect, does everything right and is a privilege to coach. Peet described Farrell as an athlete who does not require significant attention but consistently delivers a high level of play.
The coach said he did not know whether this match was Farrell’s last. He explained that he included the rugby player in the squad because he deserved it, but for the next games he has to select 17 players capable of completing the task. Peet also noted that the League Leaders’ Shield reflects the club’s consistency.

Farrell’s words
Farrell himself said that above all he wanted to regain his physical fitness. Before the match, he told Peet that he was ready to help the team if needed. The rugby player expected to spend around 10 minutes on the field, but before the start of the game the coach told him to prepare for 50 minutes.
Farrell noted that he scored in his debut match and also scored in a game he himself called the final one of his career. Wigan retain a chance of a treble: in the play-off semi-final on September 26, the team will play the lowest-seeded winner of the qualifying match.
