Nigeria’s Rangers International advance in CAF Champions League after penalty shootout
Nigeria’s Rangers International defeated Benin’s AS SOBEMAP in a penalty shootout in Lomé, Togo, and advanced to the second qualifying round of the CAF Champions League. The second leg ended in a 1:1 draw, as did the teams’ first meeting, leaving the aggregate score at 2:2.
Penalty shootout victory
In the penalty shootout, the Enugu club converted five attempts and won 5:4. The first match was held in Abeokuta, where Rangers were temporarily based. Chidozie Iwundu scored for the Nigerian team then, but AS SOBEMAP equalized.
According to Premium Times Nigeria, Rangers will face the winner of the tie between Niger’s ASN Nigelec and Algeria’s MC Alger in the next qualifying round. Their first meeting ended goalless, while the second leg was scheduled for Saturday.

Rivers United match on Sunday
Another Nigerian representative in the CAF Champions League, Rivers United, is set to play the second leg against FC San Pedro on Sunday. The teams drew 1:1 in the first match in Côte d’Ivoire.
The return match will take place at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. A Rivers United victory will send the team into the second qualifying round, while a draw will require an additional method to determine the winner of the tie.
