Wilder believes Jordan Ayew can make an impact at Sheffield United
In Ghana, Sheffield United head coach Chris Wilder said that Jordan Ayew can make an impact on the team’s play after joining the club. The 34-year-old forward joined Sheffield United for the 2026/27 season as a free agent after his contract with Leicester City expired.
The player’s experience
As MyJoyOnline reports, Wilder noted Ayew’s considerable experience at the highest level. According to the coach, just a few months ago the player was captain of the Ghana national team at the 2026 World Cup.
Ayew started all four of Ghana’s matches at the tournament, where the team reached the playoff stage. Wilder also emphasized the player’s versatility, as he has played in different attacking positions throughout his career.

Club expectations
The coach noted that Ayew played well at this level last season despite difficult circumstances. According to him, the club has already successfully signed free agents, including Pat Bamford and Jairo Riedewald, and expects Ayew to contribute.
Over his career, Ayew has played more than 500 official matches. He previously played for Marseille, Sochaux, Lorient, Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
