In New Zealand, Mark Chapman chose a flexible contract to play in the BBL
In New Zealand, 32-year-old cricketer Mark Chapman has moved to a flexible contract with New Zealand Cricket for the 2026–27 season. This will allow him to play in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) while remaining available for call-ups to the national team.
Series against India and the BBL
As Dawn reports, Chapman has played 129 matches for New Zealand in limited-overs formats. Next month, he is due to play in the limited-overs series against India before travelling to Australia.
Chapman’s BBL participation deal has not yet been announced. Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne and Tim Seifert have also joined the flexible contract system. It allows players to compete in highly paid T20 leagues without losing the opportunity to play for the national team.

Chapman said that players are eagerly awaiting the series against India and stressed his commitment to playing in those matches. He also thanked New Zealand Cricket for its support.
Chapman’s move from the list of central contracts freed up a place for fast bowler Matt Fisher. Fisher received a full contract with New Zealand Cricket for the first time.
