Nawaqanitawase and Mulitalo to face off in NRL semifinal in Sydney — ABC News Australia

In Sydney, Australia, on Saturday, September 19, the Sydney Roosters and the Sharks will play an elimination match in the NRL semifinal. One of the game’s central events will be another showdown between wingers Mark Nawaqanitawase and Ronaldo Mulitalo, ABC News Australia reports.

A possible final NRL match

For 26-year-old Nawaqanitawase, this match could be his last in rugby league. The former Australia rugby union international is returning to that sport and will play for Japanese club Saitama Wild Knights.

Nawaqanitawase switched to rugby league after the Paris Olympics. He played 44 matches for the Roosters and scored 41 tries, and also represented Australia’s rugby league team, the Kangaroos, and New South Wales in the State of Origin series.

Rivalry between wingers

Roosters centre Robert Toia expects a spectacular continuation of the rivalry between Nawaqanitawase and Mulitalo. According to him, Nawaqanitawase’s actions on the field are difficult to predict, and his performances have surprised many.

The players have repeatedly exchanged remarks during matches, although they treat each other with respect off the field. Roosters forward Siua Wong said such competitiveness makes the game more interesting. Sharks centre KL Iro said Mulitalo can sometimes make things personal, but resolves matters with opponents after the match.

The match will take place at Sydney Football Stadium. The winner will face the Dolphins in the NRL preliminary final at Lang Park.
