Ukraine has climbed in the UEFA coefficient rankings since the start of the European soccer season
Ukraine has improved its position in the UEFA coefficient rankings following the first week of the 2026/27 European club competition season. Thanks to two draws by Kyiv’s Dynamo in the Europa League qualifiers, Ukrainian soccer has climbed to 21st place, overtaking Austria.
Dynamo became Ukraine’s first representative in this season’s European competitions, defeating Universitatea Cluj in a penalty shootout after two 0–0 draws in regulation time. This earned Ukraine 0.125 points for each of the two matches in the coefficient table.
Ukraine’s total score for the five-year cycle has risen to 23.462 points. This allowed Ukraine to overtake Austria and climb to 21st place, even though none of the four Austrian clubs have yet begun their European campaigns.
Ukraine’s total tally for the new season already stands at 1.750 points, of which 1.5 points were earned by Shakhtar thanks to its qualification for the Champions League group stage.
In the UEFA coefficient table, a country’s points are calculated based on the results of all its clubs in European competitions. Teams earn points for wins and draws, which are then divided by the number of a country’s representatives that started the season. Ukraine is represented by four clubs this year, so each result accounts for one-quarter of the total points earned.
