The Ukrainian national team performed successfully at the European Cadet Judo Championships for athletes under 18, held in Spain. Our athletes won six medals—one gold, four silver, and one bronze.
The Ukrainian team ranked among the best at the tournament, which featured over 400 young judokas from 43 countries. The Ukrainians won their medals in both individual and team competitions.
From June 29 to July 2, the European Cadet Judo Championships for athletes under 18 were held on the island of Gran Canaria in Spain. More than 400 athletes from 43 countries participated in the tournament. Ukraine was represented by 20 judokas at the continental championship. By the end of the competition, the Ukrainian team had stood on the podium six times.
Khazar Heydarov won the top prize for Ukraine, becoming the European champion in his weight class. Four more Ukrainian athletes finished the tournament with silver medals. Kseniia Kyrylchuk, Diana Samoiliuk, and Yana Dovgun became European silver medalists.
The Ukrainians also won another silver medal in the mixed team tournament. The team that reached the final included Khazar Heydarov, Matviy Turchyn, Nikita Sakharov, Ilya Shvets, Tetiana Glushchenko, Viktoria Voropaeva, Arina Mashurenko, Yana Kholyavko, and Yana Dovgun. Arina Mashurenko won a bronze medal for Ukraine and also contributed to the team’s success.
Thus, the Ukrainian judokas finished the European Championships with six medals: one gold, four silver, and one bronze. This result confirmed the high level of training among young Ukrainian athletes and allowed the national team to represent the country with dignity at one of the continent’s most prestigious tournaments. The National Olympic Committee congratulated the team on their successful performance and wished the athletes further victories on the international stage.
