Removal of pigmentation, couperose, and acne: how Lumecca technology works explained by a LEO BEAUTY CLINIC doctor
Hyperpigmentation, couperose, rosacea, acne, and post-acne marks are among the most common aesthetic skin concerns. How to address them quickly and effectively using the Lumecca cosmetology device is explained by Margarita Matsukevich, a doctor at LEO BEAUTY CLINIC in Warsaw.
In their work, LBC specialists use only innovative devices that have proven to be the most effective in aesthetic medicine and cosmetology.
How the technology works
Lumecca is an IPL phototherapy device. It works using intense pulsed light that selectively targets pigment and blood vessels in the skin. Simply put, the device emits short flashes of light, which are converted into heat, and this heat “targets” and breaks down pigmented spots and superficial vessels. As a result, the skin appears more even, brighter, and firmer.

Indications for Lumecca treatment
The light is absorbed by melanin, making Lumecca highly effective for removing pigmentation such as sun spots, freckles, and post-acne marks.
It is also absorbed by haemoglobin, so the device works well for vascular issues, including spider veins, couperose, and redness. Additionally, it stimulates collagen production, improving skin texture and smoothness.
IPL is suitable for treating: pigmented spots (sun-induced, age-related, post-inflammatory), vascular marks, small capillaries, redness, uneven skin tone and dullness, early signs of photo-ageing, enlarged pores and minor textural irregularities
The device can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, and hands, and works best on light to medium skin tones.
How the session is performed and when to expect results
The procedure is painless and generally well tolerated by patients. Noticeable results can often be seen after 1–2 sessions, but a full course usually requires 1–3 sessions depending on the issue. Lumecca is more powerful than similar platforms, providing better results in fewer sessions.

Recovery
Recovery is minimal: slight redness may occur, and pigmented spots may darken and naturally shed within a few days.
Preparation
Patients are advised to avoid tanning beds, direct sun, and self-tanning 2–4 weeks prior; avoid retinoids and acids 3–5 days before; and avoid skin trauma (peels/scrubs — pause 3–5 days).
Post-treatment care
After the procedure, daily application of SPF 50 sunscreen is essential. Avoid sun exposure for 7–14 days and skip saunas or hot showers for 48 hours. Retinoids and acids can be resumed after 5–7 days. Soothing creams and panthenol-based products may be used.

Contraindications (as with any IPL device)
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, recent tanning, very dark skin types (V–VI), oncology, epilepsy, systemic retinoid use, active dermatitis, herpes in the treatment area, and use of photosensitising medications.
Key Benefits of Lumecca: faster results compared to conventional IPL, minimal recovery time, effective even on fine vessels, provides a “glow effect” after the first session, comfortable procedure thanks to effective cooling.
