A well-known promoter ended his partnership with a Ukrainian boxer following a loss
Former light heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk is no longer affiliated with the promotional company Zuffa Boxing. The company invoked a clause in the contract that allowed it to terminate the agreement in the event of the athlete’s defeat.
The Ukrainian boxer’s partnership with the organization, which is linked to UFC President Dana White, lasted only one fight.
Why Zuffa Boxing Terminated Its Contract with Gvozdyk
On February 2 in Las Vegas (USA), the Ukrainian made his debut at the Zuffa Boxing 2 event in a bout against Radivoje Kalajdžić and unexpectedly lost by knockout in the seventh round.
According to the boxer, the contract was legally terminated back in February, although company representatives had initially expressed satisfaction with the fight and were planning his next bout for May. The letter terminating the partnership arrived only in April, by which time Oleksandr had already begun training.
Gvozdyk also explained the reasons for his disappointing loss in a bout he was confidently winning early on, having knocked his opponent down twice.
“I could see in his eyes that he was already looking for a corner to throw in the towel. In moments like that, you sometimes start to neglect your defense. And light heavyweight is a division where people hit hard. I wanted to finish the fight. It seemed like a early victory was just around the corner. It turned out that wasn’t the case,” the Ukrainian admitted.
The 39-year-old Ukrainian athlete spoke about this in a comment for vRINGe.
