Zavatska advanced to the final round of qualifying for the French Open.

Ukrainian tennis player Kateryna Zavatska defeated Latvia's Daria Semenista in the second qualifying round of the French Open.

This was reported by Great Tennis of Ukraine. The Ukrainian athlete is now one step away from the main draw of the Grand Slam after a three-set match.

Zavatska started the match strongly, winning four games in a row, but her opponent fought back and nearly forced a tiebreak; however, the Ukrainian managed to close out the first set. In the second set, the Ukrainian also took a 3-1 lead with a break, but the Latvian seized the initiative, pulled ahead, and evened the score. At the start of the decisive set, the players exchanged two breaks of serve, after which Zavatska took control, won four consecutive games, and converted her match point on her second attempt.

Now, the Ukrainian tennis player will face Italian Lucia Bronzetti for a spot in the main draw of Roland Garros in a match scheduled for May 21. Zavatska has previously competed in the main draw of the French Open twice, in 2020 and 2021.

As a reminder, Svitolina defeated Andreeva and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

Ukrainian tennis players also set a historic milestone at the junior Australian Open.
