AEM Diversifies AI Chip Testing in Singapore — Channel NewsAsia
Singapore-based semiconductor testing company AEM Holdings is developing platforms for multiple customers and market segments, drawing on technologies created before the sharp rise in demand for artificial intelligence chips. This is stated in a Channel NewsAsia report.
From one customer to a platform
A long-standing collaboration with a key customer shaped AEM’s engineering expertise in semiconductor testing. At the same time, the company decided not to depend on a single source of growth and began applying its capabilities to a broader range of customers.
AEM CEO Semer Kabbani said diversification was not a response to a single crisis. According to him, the company sought to move up the value chain and offer solutions that would simultaneously meet the needs of several market segments.
AEM moved from customized solutions for one application to semi-customized platforms that can be adapted for different customers. This approach required years of investment in research and development before there was confidence in future demand.

Testing complex chips
The report notes that as AI chips grow more powerful and complex, testing has become one of the critical stages. An undetected malfunction can jeopardize the operation of an entire system, so fast, accurate and high-throughput chip testing is needed before they are used in AI servers, personal computers and other devices.
AEM develops equipment for testing complex integrated circuits. Its technologies include a proprietary precision thermal-control system, high-parallelism testing and specialized measurement tools. Kabbani stressed that these capabilities were developed over years rather than emerging alongside the AI trend.
Partnerships and research
According to Channel NewsAsia, Intel recognized AEM with an Epic Award as a strategic innovation partner. The company’s alliance with Advanced Semiconductor Engineering expands its reach within the global outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing ecosystem and may provide access to new customer segments, including hyperscalers.
AEM’s main research and development center is located in San Diego. As stated in the report, proximity to one of the major hubs of the semiconductor industry allows the company to work with customers earlier at the chip-design stage. New generations of integrated circuits in this industry may emerge every six to nine months.
