Amazon will transfer the live operations of the MMOs *Throne and Liberty* and *Lost Ark* to other companies

Amazon is ending its involvement in the live operations of the multiplayer online games *Throne and Liberty* and *Lost Ark* in Western markets. In the fourth quarter of 2026, Throne and Liberty will be taken over by FirstSpark Games and NC, and in early 2027, Smilegate will take over live operations for Lost Ark, according to The Verge.

This decision is part of a shift in Amazon’s gaming strategy. Last year, the company announced that it was winding down “a significant portion” of its work on in-house AAA games, particularly projects in the MMO genre.

Following the announcement of this new direction in October, the developers of yet another MMO, New World: Aeternum, announced they would stop releasing new content. The game has been unavailable for purchase since January, and service is set to end on January 31, 2027.

Amazon’s current gaming strategy is more focused on the Luna cloud service, games for businesses that can be played on a TV using a phone, and projects related to the company’s other franchises, including James Bond and Tomb Raider.
