Apple may unveil foldable iPhone Ultra on September 9
Apple may unveil its first foldable smartphone at an event on September 9, according to leaks. The main new product could be a model that the media call the iPhone Ultra. The company may also announce updates to the iPhone 18 lineup, AirPods headphones and HomePod smart speakers.
As TechCrunch reports, the foldable iPhone could cost more than $2,000. According to Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman, the device has a premium feel, fits in a pocket and unfolds into a wide display resembling an iPad screen.
Expected iPhone Ultra specifications
The smartphone's outer display may measure 5.5 inches diagonally, while the inner display when unfolded may measure 7.8 inches. When folded, the device will likely be shorter and wider than a typical iPhone.
Leaks also indicate that Apple may not install a telephoto camera in order to keep the body compact. Instead, the smartphone is reportedly set to receive a dual rear camera with primary and ultra-wide modules. Other possible features include MagSafe support and a Touch ID fingerprint scanner in the side button instead of Face ID.

The foldable iPhone is expected to support the simultaneous use of two apps on different halves of the unfolded screen. According to the publication, it will run iOS rather than iPadOS. Apple may also have made the crease on the inner display less noticeable, reports say.
iPhone 18, HomePod and AirPods
Apple may show the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. At the same time, according to leaks, the standard iPhone 18 model could be released about six months after the September presentation. Such a release order for the models would be new for Apple.
In a previous macOS build, users also found references to HomePod devices that have not yet been unveiled. Researcher Aaron Perris discovered a video in the build that may indicate the development of AirPods with built-in cameras. According to Mark Gurman, these cameras are intended to work as “eyes” for the Siri voice assistant, collecting low-resolution visual information rather than taking photos or videos.
