Apple has raised prices on MacBook, iPad, and Vision Pro due to rising memory costs
Apple has raised prices on some of its products, including the MacBook, iPad, Vision Pro headset, Apple TV, and HomePod. The company cites a sharp rise in the cost of memory chips amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence and growing demand for computing components.
The new prices appeared on Apple’s website on Thursday, June 25, although some third-party retailers—including Best Buy and Target—are still displaying the old prices. The price hike has affected nearly the entire lineup of the company’s gadgets: from the entry-level iPad to the flagship MacBook Pro, which has gone up by $300. The most significant price increase was for the Apple Vision Pro—up by $200.
The company explained that the rapid growth in the number of artificial intelligence data centers has caused an extraordinary surge in demand for memory chips and storage devices. A company spokesperson added that this is not the news buyers would like to hear, and Apple is trying to find a way to mitigate the situation for customers.
Apple (AAPL) shares plummeted 6.1% on Thursday—the company hasn’t experienced such a one-day drop in over a year, according to CNN.
