Apple comments on the resemblance of wide foldable smartphones to iPhone Duo

Apple executives commented on the emergence of wide foldable smartphones, which Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi announced ahead of the iPhone Duo. The Verge reports, citing interviews given by Apple CEO John Ternus and the company’s marketing chief Greg “Joz” Joswiak to TechRadar and Tom’s Guide journalists.

Apple’s comment

According to Joswiak, leaks had made it known that Apple was working on a foldable smartphone. He said that other manufacturers learned the device’s aspect ratio and ironically mentioned numerous “coincidences” when this format attracted the interest of other companies.

The Verge links these remarks to Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi, which unveiled wide foldable models this year before the iPhone Duo announcement. The outlet also noted that it is difficult to keep product development secret when Apple and its competitors work with the same global suppliers.

Display details

Joswiak stated that Apple managed to keep details of the iPhone Duo’s foldable display with nanotexture secret. According to him, the company strengthened security measures and did not disclose this development to third parties.

Ternus also spoke about his first encounter with the display prototype. According to him, upon seeing it, he realized that it was exactly the solution he wanted. The Verge’s author noted that Ternus’s reaction reflected his engineering approach to products.
