Boeing will sell three eVTOL subsidiaries to Archer Aviation
Boeing is selling three subsidiaries involved in the development of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to Archer Aviation. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Boeing will also acquire an undisclosed stake in Archer Aviation, according to The Verge.
Archer will acquire Wisk Aero, which is developing an autonomous electric aircraft. The deal also includes SkyGrid—a developer of air traffic control systems for urban air taxis—and Insitu, which manufactures high-altitude drones used by the U.S. Navy.
As part of the agreements, Boeing and Archer will exchange technologies. Boeing will retain access to Wisk’s autonomous flight systems for current and future commercial and defense projects.

Brian Utko, Boeing’s vice president of commercial aircraft product development, called the deal mutually beneficial for Boeing and Archer. According to The Verge, it could strengthen Archer’s position in the race to launch commercial electric air taxi services.
Archer previously announced that it plans to launch pilot air taxi services in several markets by the end of the year, including New York, Texas, and Florida. The company is also expanding into the military supply sector: it recently unveiled a new eVTOL aircraft, jointly developed with Palmer Luckey’s defense technology company Anduril.
According to The Verge, Boeing’s order backlog stands at $715 billion and includes more than 6,200 aircraft that the company has yet to build. The aircraft manufacturer is also under increased scrutiny from regulators following several high-profile safety incidents, including an incident in 2024 when a section of the fuselage broke off from a Boeing 737 Max during flight.
