Canon unveils EOS R8 Mark II with in-body stabilization — The Verge
Canon has unveiled the full-frame EOS R8 Mark II camera with a five-axis in-body image stabilization system. As The Verge reports, the new product features a retro design inspired by Canon film cameras and has become the brand’s lightest full-frame model with built-in stabilization.
Stabilization and shooting
The five-axis stabilization system provides shake correction of up to 7.5 exposure stops. Its capabilities can be expanded by pairing the camera with a lens that has its own stabilization.
The EOS R8 Mark II weighs 1.2 pounds, slightly more than the previous EOS R8 due to the addition of the stabilization system. At the same time, the new model is lighter and cheaper than the EOS R6 Mark III, introduced last year.
The camera is equipped with a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, the same as in the EOS R6 Mark II. The EOS R6 Mark III, by comparison, received a 32.5-megapixel sensor.

Like the previous model, the EOS R8 Mark II uses only an electronic shutter, without a mechanical one. The maximum continuous shooting speed is 40 frames per second, while the pre-continuous shooting mode can record up to 20 frames before the shutter button is pressed.
Price and availability
The EOS R8 Mark II is expected to go on sale in late October. The camera body will cost $1,899, while a kit with a stabilized Canon 24–50 mm lens will cost $2,099.
The first EOS R8, released in 2023, cost $1,499 at launch. The new model will be cheaper than the EOS R6 Mark III, priced at $2,799, but it has lower specifications and lacks some of the higher-end camera’s features.
