D’Addario acknowledged using Suno to regenerate a track in an advertisement

Guitar string manufacturer D’Addario has acknowledged that it used Suno Studio to regenerate the original track in a promotional video. The company edited an Instagram post in which it had previously denied using generative AI, according to The Verge.

In an update to its July 29 post, D’Addario stated that it had completed a full review and confirmed the use of Suno Studio. The company apologized for spreading inaccurate information, stated that it does not endorse AI-generated music, and promised to change its processes.

D’Addario also announced that it will require employees and creative partners to disclose any use of generative AI. The company promised to review all content it publishes more thoroughly.

The controversy arose over a video showcasing a new set of strings for extended-range and low-tuning guitars. According to The Verge, users immediately questioned the origin of the recording. For nearly two weeks, D’Addario dismissed these claims, attributing the sound’s peculiarities to low-quality export, a combination of plugins such as Auto-Tune, and the use of AI-powered mastering tools from LANDR and Logic.

In an updated post, the company also apologized for its strict moderation of comments. The Verge reports that critical comments were deleted and their authors were blocked. Instead of issuing a separate new statement, D’Addario likely edited its previous post.
