Microsoft Will Consolidate Copilot Apps Ahead of the Launch of a "Super App"
Microsoft is beginning to merge its consumer and commercial Copilot AI assistants into a single interface. The changes will first affect the Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot apps: personal and work accounts will be migrated to an updated, unified app called Microsoft Copilot, according to The Verge.
The new app will feature an updated icon. After the merger, Windows users will no longer see two separate Copilot icons in the system tray or on the taskbar. Microsoft stated that the updated version combines Copilot’s chat and image-generation capabilities with Microsoft 365’s productivity tools.

The company views these changes as a technical step toward the launch of the Copilot “super app,” which it plans to introduce later this year. The global rollout of the update for mobile apps and the web version is set to begin in mid-August. The Windows and Mac versions are scheduled to be updated in mid-September, and some participants in the Windows Insiders program will begin receiving the updates as early as this week.
Mobile users will be prompted to download the new Copilot app. Existing Microsoft Copilot users will be migrated to the updated version while retaining their chats and content. Microsoft 365 Copilot users will see minor changes to navigation, a new icon, and will gain access to the Copilot chat.
