Chinese technology company DJI has introduced its first drone featuring a full 360-degree camera — the Avata 360. The device includes an omnidirectional camera capable of shooting HDR video in 8K resolution at 60 frames per second. Its price starts at 4,400 yuan (approximately $640).

The launch comes amid an ongoing patent dispute with Shenzhen-based company Insta360, located in Guangdong province. DJI has filed a lawsuit accusing its rival of infringing six patents related to flight control and image processing technologies.
Avata 360 will be the world's second drone equipped with 360-degree viewing capability. Last year, Antigravity, supported by Insta360, released the A1 drone. The recommended retail price of the A1 is $1,600, though it is currently sold with a 20% discount.
DJI, founded in 2006, is a global leader in drone technology and aerial imaging. The company is known for its innovative solutions that expand the possibilities of aerial photography and videography.
Overall, the introduction of Avata 360 underscores DJI’s commitment to strengthening its position in the advanced 360-degree drone market despite ongoing legal challenges. This development is likely to have a significant impact on the evolution of 360-degree camera drones.
Looking ahead, we can expect DJI to continue enhancing its drone technologies and escalating competition with Insta360, driving further innovation in this sector.
