The ShinyHunters hacking group has attacked the developers of Grand Theft Auto 6
Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that its infrastructure was hacked by the notorious ShinyHunters group.
The attackers claim to have gained access to confidential materials and have already demanded a ransom from the company.
The hackers have obtained important internal company documents covering various aspects of its operations.
The stolen data includes financial reports, strategic marketing plans, and detailed contracts with partners.
Specifically, this includes agreements with industry giants such as Sony and Microsoft. In addition to corporate agreements, the attackers have obtained information about contracts with voice actors and other sensitive data.
The cybercriminals have set a strict deadline for receiving payment from the developers. If Rockstar does not make the payment by April 14, 2026, the hackers threaten to make all the stolen materials publicly available.
Rockstar representatives sought to reassure the public and investors, commenting on the severity of the incident.
The company’s official statement notes that the leak involves only a “limited amount of non-essential information” and that player security has not been compromised.
According to preliminary data, the breach occurred due to a vulnerability in a third-party service used by the studio.
The developers emphasize that the incident has in no way affected the release schedule for Grand Theft Auto 6 or the stability of current services.
GTA VI is officially set to release in May 2026
