Chinese startup DeepSeek is developing its own AI chip — Reuters

DeepSeek, a popular Chinese startup, is working on developing its own AI chip to reduce its reliance on third-party component suppliers

Currently, the company uses processors manufactured by the American company Nvidia Corp. and the Chinese corporation Huawei to train and run its models. Sources note that the startup’s new in-house development will be highly specialized.

The chip is being designed specifically for inference—the stage at which a ready-to-use, trained AI model processes queries and generates responses for end users—rather than for performing resource-intensive processes such as training new algorithms.

DeepSeek attracted significant attention from the global community in early 2025. At that time, the company unveiled an AI model capable of competing on equal footing with leading American counterparts, despite strict international restrictions on China’s access to cutting-edge semiconductor technologies and foreign experts. The company’s financial position strengthened significantly in June of this year, when, following its first major investment round, the startup raised over 50 billion yuan (about $7.4 billion), reaching a market valuation of over $50 billion.

Prior to this, the Chinese startup DeepSeek presented preliminary versions of its new flagship artificial intelligence model, V4, which it calls the most powerful open-source solution.

We also reported that artificial intelligence sometimes lies, even when it knows the truth.

The Chinese company DeepSeek plans to launch its new V4 artificial intelligence model on Huawei Technologies chips in the coming weeks—an important step in the context of China’s technological development and restrictions on the supply of foreign processors.
