Mavi announces $4 million seed investment — TechCrunch

Mavi, a platform that helps companies in the United States find finance and accounting professionals from other countries, has announced its emergence from stealth mode. Founded in 2023, the company uses artificial intelligence to source and onboard professionals with AI-related skills within a few days, TechCrunch reports.

Finding professionals abroad

Mavi focuses on long-term hiring for mid-level and senior roles to supplement companies’ in-house finance teams. The platform also helps with administrative processes when hiring abroad, including cross-border contracts, legal and compliance procedures, and payroll.

Mavi co-CEO Molly Liu said that the accounting profession in the United States is shrinking, while some existing specialists lack sufficient skills in applying artificial intelligence. According to her, employers may be reluctant to hire workers from other countries because of the complexity of onboarding and managing such teams or doubts about candidates’ qualifications.

Demand for professional judgment

Liu believes that automation will handle an increasing number of entry-level tasks in finance and accounting. In her view, this could intensify the shortage of mid-level specialists, as fewer entry-level workers will be able to gain the necessary experience over time.

According to the Mavi co-CEO, companies will continue to need experienced professionals to make decisions in critical work processes. An accountant knowledgeable in AI must possess finance and accounting expertise, be able to guide artificial intelligence tools, verify their results, integrate large language models into workflows, and use AI-oriented ERP systems.

Last year, Mavi raised $4 million in a seed round led by Harlem Capital, but the company did not disclose it until Monday. Liu said the platform has more than 3,000 accounting professionals, while its corporate clients include personal care products company Athena Club.
