Meta allowed AI to generate images from Instagram users' photos without their permission
Meta has launched a new service for generating and editing images using artificial intelligence, which can use photos from public Instagram accounts.
The new tool, Muse Image, creates images based on text descriptions and allows users to edit the resulting photos. According to media reports, users can tag a person with a public profile in their request, after which the AI will use that person’s images, including photos showing their face.
At the same time, the owner of the original photos will not receive notifications about such generated images. By default, public accounts allow the use of photos to create AI-generated images, and to disable this, users must manually change their settings.
Meta stated that the service has built-in safeguards that prevent the creation of images that violate the company’s policies.
