Nintendo announces Metroid Ravenous for Switch 2
Nintendo has announced the 2D game Metroid Ravenous for the Switch 2 console. The release is scheduled for January 28, 2027, The Verge reports.
Two-dimensional format and three-dimensional graphics
The new installment in the series retains a two-dimensional format but uses three-dimensional graphics and cinematic combat scenes. The main character, Samus, will be able to parry enemy attacks and move in Morph Ball form.

In the materials shown by Nintendo, Samus appears to absorb opponents' energy in order to survive. The company used the slogan “eat or be eaten” for the game. The enemies shown included large creatures, as well as a group of futuristic fighters in cloaks who attack the heroine with blades and rotating metal headpieces.
Previous releases in the series
Metroid Ravenous will become a new game in the Metroid series. In 2021, Nintendo released Metroid Dread; in 2023, a remaster of Metroid Prime for the first Switch; and last year, Metroid Prime 4.
