Shipt launches AI assistant for building shopping carts — TechCrunch
Target-owned delivery platform Shipt has announced the launch of Ask Shipt, an AI assistant that creates personalized, checkout-ready carts based on users’ text requests. The service is already available in the Shipt app and on Shipt.com, TechCrunch reports.
Carts on request
Users can ask the assistant to gather products for a specific event or everyday needs. For example, the service can create a cart for a Saturday gathering of 25 people with brunch products or select items for simple school lunches and after-school snacks.
Ask Shipt also allows users to upload a photo of a dish seen online or at a restaurant. According to the company, the assistant will identify the ingredients and add them to the cart. In addition, users can ask for ideas that take their budget into account — for example, a weekday dinner option for a family of five costing up to $35.

AI in delivery services
Shipt has joined other delivery platforms that are integrating AI assistants into their apps. On the day of the announcement, Instacart introduced its AI grocery-shopping assistant Clementine, while Uber Eats and DoorDash also launched similar tools this year.
The launch of Ask Shipt followed the introduction of other artificial intelligence-based features on Target.com, including product search by photo, customer review summaries, and personalized shopping capabilities.
