Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton warns AI could replace many jobs by 2026

Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton has warned that artificial intelligence could replace a large number of professions by 2026, potentially triggering a wave of unemployment. This is significant as AI technologies are rapidly advancing and are already displacing call center workers and programmers.

Hinton noted that neural networks are advancing swiftly and will soon be capable of independently handling complex projects. He also expressed concerns that this development could deepen economic inequality, making the rich richer while the majority of people become poorer. Meanwhile, Google Brain co-founder Andrew Ng described AI as a “highly limited” technology and believes that algorithms will not be able to replace humans in the foreseeable future.

This warning sparks an important conversation about the future of work and the need to adapt socio-economic systems to new challenges. The coming years may prove pivotal in human-AI interaction.
