OpenAI is shutting down its AI browser, Atlas, less than a year after its launch
OpenAI has announced that it will discontinue support for Atlas, an AI-powered browser. Some of its features will be integrated into the ChatGPT desktop app and the Google Chrome browser extension.
According to James San, a representative of OpenAI’s product team, Atlas will remain available until at least August 9, 2026. Thus, the browser will have been on the market for less than nine months.
The decision to shut down Atlas was made following a review of the company’s priorities and the scaling back of secondary projects. Previously, OpenAI also halted development of Sora, a service for generating short videos using artificial intelligence.

As a reminder, Microsoft plans to allocate approximately $80 billion in fiscal year 2025 to develop data centers for training artificial intelligence models.
Tesla says it will build new “first-of-their-kind” data centers. The automaker is hiring staff for this purpose and acquiring some existing data centers.
