South Korea will provide free access to AI for all citizens
South Korea plans to be the first country in the world to provide all citizens with free access to generative artificial intelligence at the government level as part of the “AI for All” program.
The government will cover the costs of domestic AI services to reduce the country’s dependence on American and Chinese technologies and strengthen its own technology sector.
Three technology consortia will operate the system, developing standalone applications and integrating AI into existing digital platforms.
One of the key areas of focus will be integrating artificial intelligence with government services. With the help of AI, citizens will be able to make doctor’s appointments, receive advice on housing and taxes, and get recommendations for their children’s education.
For small businesses, the technology will help calculate taxes and verify eligibility for government support programs. Users are promised unlimited access with no limits on the number of tokens.
To run the program, three consortia will receive up to 512 high-performance Nvidia B200 chips, and the government will also cover a portion of the operating costs.
Beta testing for “AI for All” is set to begin in September, and the program’s full launch is scheduled for the end of the year.
