Sonos unveils Beam Ultra soundbar with Dolby Atmos support
Sonos has unveiled the $699 Beam Ultra soundbar, designed for TVs up to 65 inches. The device has a 7.1.2 configuration and supports Dolby Atmos content. At the same time, the company announced the $449 Ace Ultra headphones and a number of app updates.
First impressions from the demonstration
As The Verge reports, the publication's journalist listened to the Beam Ultra during a private demonstration in a small room. The soundbar was positioned about six feet from members of the press, and several clips were used to demonstrate the device's capabilities, including while playing Dolby Atmos content.
During the opening minutes of Widow’s Bay, in the author's assessment, the soundbar demonstrated enhanced bass, better voice clarity, and spatial audio capabilities. Details were noticeable in the sound mix, including radio communications, background effects, and the buildup of the musical score.

Design and rear channels
Externally, the Beam Ultra resembles previous Beam models, but it has openings in the upper part of the корпус for upward-firing speakers. The soundbar is also equipped with side speakers. The Verge author noted that conditions in the demonstration room were favorable for sound reflections from these speakers.
Sonos wirelessly connected two portable Play speakers to the Beam Ultra and positioned them behind the listeners as rear channels. This configuration was used to demonstrate a clip from Sinners. At the same time, the journalist noted that it remains to be seen how well the soundbar will perform in home conditions.
